Rumors have gone viral on
the Web alleging that President Jimmy Carter announced that he has cancer and it
is spreading throughout his body.

On August 20, 2015 President Jimmy
Carter told members of the press that the "cancer that first was discovered as a
tumor on his liver also is on his brain, and he will undergo radiation
treatment." This according to a Fox News
report released the same day. Carter told members of the press that
"he will cut back 'fairly dramatically' on his work at the Carter Center."
The former President first released a
statement on August 12, 2015 that said, "Recent liver surgery revealed that
I have cancer that now is in other parts of my body. I will be rearranging my
schedule as necessary so I can undergo treatment by physicians at Emory
Healthcare. A more complete public statement will be made when facts are known,
possibly next week."
Carter, age 90,
has a family history of cancer and "has enjoyed the longest post-presidency in
