Viral video on YouTube that alleges to be all the proof that is needed that Barack Obama is a Muslim.

iRumorMill.com Determination: Edited and Out of Context of the Intended Message

This video is poorly edited from video portions of speeches made by the President.   The problem with the video is that it tries to make a point by taking snips from other videos and assembling them together out of the context of what was said in the original video.

Since Barack Obama announced his candidacy in 2008 conspiracy theorists have speculated that a Muslim has been imbedded into to the higher ranks of the U.S. Government.

Here is our analysis of what was put together from the first part of the video. To make it easier to compare the video transcript is in red and the original speech transcript is in blue.

Many other Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim-majority country — I know, because I am one of them.

This portion came from the speech delivered to the Turkish Parliament by the President on April 6, 2009. The iRumorMill.com crew found the official White House Transcript posted on its website.

The complete text is:
I also want to be clear that America's relationship with the Muslim community, the Muslim world, cannot, and will not, just be based upon opposition to terrorism. We seek broader engagement based on mutual interest and mutual respect. We will listen carefully, we will bridge misunderstandings, and we will seek common ground. We will be respectful, even when we do not agree. We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world -- including in my own country. The United States has been enriched by Muslim Americans. Many other Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim-majority country -- I know, because I am one of them.

This was taken out of the speech the President gave in Cairo on June 4, 2009:

This portion also came from the Cairo speech:

So I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed.  That experience guides my conviction that partnership between America and Islam must be based on what Islam is, not what it isn't.  And I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.

You’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith

That portion came during an September 7, 2008 interview with George Stephanopoulos. Obama said that inferring that McCain had not suggested that his opponent was a Muslim.

The video goes on to show the President reciting passages from the Quran and calling it "Holy." That still offers no proof. Elected politicians often quote from various material in speeches made for them by their writers in order to identify with the audience. Just because they quote a religious passage does not mean that they believe it.

This still offers no proof that Barak Obama is a Muslim.  What we do know about the religious practices of the President is that he proclaims to be a Christian.

On more than one occasion Obama has declared himself to be a Christian. In 1992 he had begun attending Trinity United Church in Chicago and were and Michelle were married by Pastor Jeremiah Wright. Over the years Rev. Wright has had a reputation for making some outrageous comments about the U.S. In 2008 Wright suggest the spread of AIDS in the black community may have been caused by the U.S. government. Wright also equated  some of American wartime efforts with terrorism.  His association with Wright was not the best thing for his White House run so at that point Obama distanced his family from Wright and his church.

During his first Whitehouse run Obama appeared in a nation wide discussion at Saddleback church where Pastor Rick Warren asked some tough questions. Obama once again proclaimed to be a Christian and even defined marriage as a sacred union between a man and a woman, saying that he believed that same sex couples should be given certain rights such as being allowed to visit each other in hospitals. In 2012 the President flip flopped his stance on traditional marriage when he came out in support of same sex marriages. According to a May 10, 2012 article by the Wall Street Journal Obama said this about 6 months before the November election.

As for the President's religious beliefs, only God knows where President Obama stands, but more conservative Christians believe Revelation 3:15 may categorize where Obama stands with God.
