On May 12, 2015 an Amtrak
train derailed in Philadelphia, killing 7 and left hundreds injured. Days later,
during a press conference, Democrat House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told
reporters that the Republicans are against Amtrak and voted to cut funding to the
transportation company.

Pelosi and Democrats criticized
Republican Law Makers "for making the cuts in the wake of the train crash,"
according to a May 15, 2015
article by the Washington Examiner. The House Minority Leader told
reporters, "Republicans have been very much against Amtrak for a very long
time." Pelosi added, "For some reason it has just been opposed by some, not all,
in the Republican Party."

House Speaker John Boehner was quick in the rebuttal when asked about the
funding cut that Pelosi linked to the derailment. Boehner pointed out that funds
had not been cut, more funds were appropriated this Spring and the train was
traveling two times the speed limit.
