Reports that the U.S. Army is charging Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl with desertion after leaving his post in Afghanistan, which resulted in a 5 year detention by the Taliban.

Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was charged by the U.S. Army "with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy" and is is facing a life sentence if convicted. This according to a March 25, 2015 article by the Associated Press.

The article said, "The case now goes to an Article 32 hearing to be held at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, where Bergdahl has been performing administrative duties as he awaits the conclusion of the case."  No date has been announced to the proceeding, which has been compared similar to a grand jury. The Associated Press said after the hearing Bergdahl's case "could be referred to a court-martial and go to trial."

On May 31, 2014, Bergdahl was released after the Obama Administration negotiated a prisoner exchange for five members of the Taliban who were held prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention center.
