Just one day before the end of his school session, a 9-year-old boy at William P. Tatum Elementary School in Collingswood, New Jersey, made a comment about the brownies being served to the class and ended up in hot water because it was interpreted by another student as a racist remark. This according to a June 30, 2016 article by Philadelphia Inquirer, which said, the school summoned the local police look into the matter
When law enforcement arrived on the scene they interviewed the 9-year-old student. Stacy dos Santos, the boy's mother, told reporters "that the school overreacted and that her son made a comment about snacks, not skin color."
The article said the third grader was absent on the last day of school and Collingswood Police department the incident was referred to the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
