Carrie Fisher died at at 8:55 a.m. on Dec. 27, 2016, five days after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. This according to a Dec. 27, 2016 article by the New York Times that said the actress had been in a hospital in Los Angeles since her plane landed at LAX.
Best know for her role as Prince Leia, Fisher was also a popular writer with such books as "Postcards from the Edge" and "Surrender the Pink." With her recent return in the Star Wars series, which included a digitized cameo in "Rogue 1," Fisher released her latest book, "The Princess Diarist," a compilation of "recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie."
Fisher was also an advocate for mental health.
One day after her death, Fisher's mother, actress Debby Reynolds, was admitted to the hospital for a stroke and later died.
