According to a November 15, 2014 article by England's Daily Mail, Shama Bibi, 24, and her husband Sajjad Maseeh, 27, "had their legs broken so they could not flee the mob that locked them inside a brick-making factory before their murder." The incident took place Tuesday November 4th and Bibi was a mother of 4, and was expecting another baby in 5 months.
The article said a crowd of 1,200 had surrounded the couple and they were burned alive by being "thrown on top of a brick kiln."
The Daily Mail said that a local police official, Jawad Qamar, told reporters that killing was over a local suspicions of blasphemy after a rubbish collector found pages of the Koran in front of Shehzad's house. He reported it to a local cleric. Shehzad's father, a local religious healer had recently died and Shehzad's wife took on the task of disposing items from his room that the family might not find useful. The discarded items were thrown in the trash near the front of her house.
Local Christians and rights activists expressed their outrage and staged protests demanding justice for the killing.
According to Thursday, November 13, 2014 article by Assist News Service, "A protest march for Shahid and Shama was held in Kasur, Pakistan, on November 9, 2014. Pastors of all denominations including Catholic and Protestant participated. The demonstrators chanted slogans and brandished placards protesting the ongoing religious persecution in Pakistan, demanding an end to the injustices and abuses related to the blasphemy laws."
Police told reporters that they have rounded up 44 supects.
