Tumblr will be banning adult content on the social media site beginning December 17, 2018. This according to a notice posted by the site staff on the front page.
The Art Cafe Blog looked into this and it appeared that not that many Tumblr users post porn on the social media platform, The blog entry said. "According to research reported on by Vice in 2016, while less than 1% of Tumblrs then-130 million users posted pornography, approximately 22% of users viewed it while 28% of users were “unintentionally exposed” to pornography."
The article said that the policy change stemmed from the site being removed from "Apple’s App Store because some users had posted and downloaded photographs of child sex abuse."
How this will affect Tumblr is not known. In a statement Tumblr said, “There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content, we will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.”
